KEEPSAKE
BOOKS FOR BABIES
The
20th Century Children's Book Treasury: Celebrated Picture
Books and Stories to Read Aloud Janet Schulman 1998
Make room on your bookshelf,
because anyone who has a kid, or is a kid at heart, will
want a copy of this treasure. From ten decades of storytelling
comes a collection of 44 of the most memorable and beloved
children's books of our time. As a gift, a keepsake, and
a companion in a child's first steps toward a lifelong love
of reading it is a collection of picture book stories by
such authors as Ludwig Bemelmans, Ezra Jack Keats, and Maurice
Sendak.
Tomie
de Paola's Favorite Nursery Tales Tomie de Paola
1986
An illustrated collection of poems, fables, and stories
for the nursery, with an emphasis on traditional tales.
The smallest can listen to ``The Three Bears,'' the middle-sized
ones will enjoy ``The Owl and the Pussycat,'' and the older
ones will puzzle out ``Rumpelstiltskin.'' Jacobs, Andersen,
and Grimm account for most of the selections, and there
are a few poems, too. DePaola's droll, witty, and very funny
illustrations capture the essence of each story from a child's
point of view. It's unlikely that any adult will get away
with reading just one of these selections for a bedtime
story.
My
Very First Mother Goose Iona Arichibald Opie 1996
For this nursery rhyme collection, the British folklorist
Iona Opie has chosen 68 rhymes and arranged them in the
loose framework of a day's activities, from morning till
night. The book opens with Jack and Jill's disastrous trip
to fetch a pail of water and concludes with a prayer for
a safe journey. Such a spirit of fun and pleasure emanates
from every page of this big, handsome volume that although
there are many distinguished entries in the nursery-rhyme
book field, this one is sure to add special joy to any collection.
BOARD
BOOKS FOR BABIES
Goodnight
Moon Margaret Wise Brown 1991
"In the great green room..."-The first few words from this
beloved 1947 classic are enough to start many adults reciting
the rest. The story is simple: a rabbit is going to bed,
and after taking stock of every item in his room, he says
goodnight to each, one at a time. Brown's soothing text
is complimented by Hurd's vibrant illustration. Can you
find the mouse in every colored picture?
Brown
Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? Bill Martin
1996
Eric Carle's double-page tissue collages and Bill Martin's
friendly chant unite to create this vibrant introduction
to colors. The first line of the book is the title, to which
a big brown bear responds,"I see a redbird looking at me."
The redbird responds with another animal and so on, until
a mother (or a teacher, depending on the edition) asks a
group of children what they see. A wonderful read-aloud
for either a group or individuals, this book is a favorite
for teachers.
The
Very Hungry Caterpillar Eric Carle 1994
This is the delightful story of one very small and very
hungry caterpillar who grows into a beautiful butterfly
as he nibbles his way through the pages of the book. Children
help the caterpillar turn into a butterfly by turning half
pages or putting small fingers through inviting holes in
the stiff pages, a more varied participation than the conventional
"lift the flap" books.
The
Runaway Bunny Margaret Wise Brown, Clement
Hurd (Ill.) 1991
The runaway bunny, first published in 1942 and never out
of print, has indeed become a classic. Two generations of
readers have fallen in love with the gentle magic of its
reassuring words and loving pictures. It is here published
in a new edition for which the artist has redrawn some of
his pictures; they are wholly in keeping with the softy
poetic timeless spirit of his famous originals.
Guess
How Much I Love You Sam McBratney 1996
How much can you love someone? Little Brown Hare wants to
show Big Nutbrown Hare how very much he loves him - but
love as big as his is very hard to measure! Read this tender
book with someone you love!
Moo
Baa la la La Sandra Boynton 1982
Serious silliness for all ages. Artist Sandra Boynton is
back and better than ever with completely redrawn versions
of her multi-million selling board books. These whimsical
and hilarious books, featuring nontraditional texts and
her famous animal characters, have been printed on thick
board pages, and are sure to educate and entertain children
of all ages.

pajamas, brush their teeth, and exercise before going to
bed.
Pooh
Slide and Find Books: Where Is Pooh's Honey? A.A.Milne,
E.H.Shepard 2001
There are lots of things to look for in the Hundred Acre
Wood, and little ones can help find them in this unique
board book. Each spread in this sturdy book features a special

honey. Based on Milne's classic stories and illustrated
in full color with familiar friends and scenes from the
Hundred Acre Wood, this book offer tons of charm, cheer,
and, of course, everyone's favorite Bear, Winnie-the-Pooh.
I Spy Little Book Jean Marzollo 1997

little ones trying to pick paperclips off the pages as they
scan each delightful jumble of related objects. Scaled down
in size and concept, this board book version of the popular
series uses collages to build vocabulary, teach colors,
numbers, classification skills and provide hours of guessing
game fun.
